Hello again and welcome to Void Signal, I am your host Brian Prime and this week is a short chat with Anton and Rosselinni of Die Sexual. If you're not familiar with Die Sexual, you should be. It's sexual intention set to a beat, it's raw and unfiltered. While Anton live mixes their music, Rosselinni is enchanting to behold. We sat down in the green room for a short chat after they gave a steamy and hypnotic performance on their west coast tour, and that's what you'll hear next, but while we're discussing West Coast tours, have you gotten your tickets for Glomfest yet? This September, the west coast will get to experience a tremendous line-up as Glomfest plays L.A., San Francisco, Portland, and Vancouver. It's your chance to see The Awakening, Dark Chisme, and The Royal Ritual, along with special guests for each date. I'll be at the L.A. and San Francisco shows to interview bands and attendees alike. Get your tickets, come say hello and enjoy a fantastic evening of talent. Visit glomfest.com to get your ticket, that's glom, g l o m fest.com.
I'm going to do that thing where I guilt trip you about Void Signal again. Void Signal is my ad-free passion project, designed to send my voice, and maybe some thoughtful words, out into the world. Maybe someone finds their new favorite band, or hear some thoughts that comfort them, or not feel alone while traveling. You can help support the creation of more Void Signal by visiting voidsignal.net or patreon.com/voidsignal and signing up to support the void signal project. Thank you as always for your consideration.

Okay, our time is at en end, enjoy this chat with Die Sexual, and we'll talk again soon. Stay safe, and stay loud. And if no one told you today, you look so delicious.

Brian Prime: [00:00:00] Welcome to Void Signal. I'm your host, Brian Prime. I'm here with, , bisexual, , I, Anton and Rosaline. , Pleasure to meet you both. This is my second time seeing you, and I had the pleasure of seeing you here in Reno. , My home. Not my hometown, but a place I regard as home. , And you guys were incredible again.

, You've just kicked off, , a big tour and supporting Matt Black on a bunch of those dates. , Congratulations on your success.

Rosselinni: Thank you. Thank you. I really appreciate it. Um, yeah, dark success was really cool.

Anton: Yeah.

Rosselinni: Um, uh,

Anton: yeah, it's just been, you know, it's like every time we. Start, gotta go out on the road, do little trips, you know, things just kind of keep growing and growing.

So, um, you know, we love to get out and meet people and, and play shows and get out there and play live. So we're happy to Yeah, to keep, keep doing that. So, you know, this tour is gonna kind of. Kind of take us through November. Actually, we're kind of on the road a couple weeks home, a week or two back on the road, a couple weeks home, a week or two.

So at this point we're like [00:01:00] going straight through to November. Yeah. So it's been crazy. Few

Brian Prime: months. Yeah. Do you mind if I ask what you guys do that, , that affords you the opportunity to go do that? Is the band just the main thing for about It's all, um,

Rosselinni: yeah. Uh, you know, we're kinda like full-time, uh. I do freelance photography, but like, you know, yeah.

We just like kind of went full course.

Anton: Sure.

Rosselinni: And um,

Anton: yeah, it just kind of became a thing, you know, charging. You know, and since we first kinda started putting out music, you know, we're just immediately, were getting asked to do shows all the time. And for a while we couldn't, we couldn't do shows because we just didn't have enough material.

Material. Yeah. We put out like our first ep, like three songs we, like You Play, keep, play three songs, two or songs. So we few more songs on your belt, you know, the ones we did, you know, like said the um, the booking offers started coming more, more and more regularly, so it became a thing. It was like, you know, we can just kind of sustain just.

Doing this as, as best as we can, just playing live. And then, you know, then, then it becomes a thing [00:02:00] where we're now, it's become a thing where we're playing live so much we don't have much time to spend at home in the studio work. Yeah. So it's kind of like getting those little, where we have a couple weeks off and just kind of using those weeks to, to write new material.

Yeah. And, and everyone's been like.

Rosselinni: Um, you know, especially on band camp. Mm-hmm. Like, you know, they're always purchasing and that's kind of Yeah. What helps. And like the merch, like, um mm-hmm. Yeah. That's been like super.

Brian Prime: Yeah. I was going to comment that, , it, you, the band is young. And, uh, it seems like your, , it has been, , not meteoric because , not much is in this industry.

Mm-hmm. But, , it's been quick and I think that your, I've been meaning to compliment your marketing. , You guys are very active on social media. Uh, great logo, great artwork. That's all Raz. It's,

Rosselinni: that's her, not, uh, yeah. I mean, she's kind, taking

Anton: charge of all that.

Rosselinni: Yeah, I mean, I have my [00:03:00] freelance photography.

Someone immersed in, uh,

Brian Prime: you can go. Do we, can we? Yeah, we'll just come back to this. Yeah, go for it. Sorry. No, it's all good. Oh, worries.

Rosselinni: Um, down the street and then we got pizza here. Remember the place it super cute, like had like a fireplace and like Oh

Brian Prime: yeah. Goat

Rosselinni: lights, like outdoor, indoor thing. Yeah.

Super. People like

Brian Prime: in the fall here, like, it was weird

Rosselinni: because it's like we had to go like five minutes that way. Like yeah, I know there's not much like here, but, um.

Brian Prime: Yeah. Top bars. Yeah. Yeah. In the fall it's really nice 'cause there's so many past places with like patios and stuff like that. Yeah. So

Rosselinni: that's what we're looking for.

And we had this like amazing pizza. It was like, ah, so good.

Brian Prime: Yeah. , So we were talking about how amazing your merch Oh you and, yeah. We had to pause so you could go sell some. Oh yeah.

Rosselinni: Uh, yeah. I mean, I've had my, my business for like. 15 years. Oh wow. I've been doing it self-taught. Um, so I kind of, I went to [00:04:00] school for a little bit, like for business and marketing and stuff, and that's kind of like what I wanted to do.

Mm-hmm. Uh, so then, yeah, I just started running like some accounts, like running my own accounts and built my own website, do web design, graphic design. Um, so yeah, it was like, let me, let me do, let me do what I know how to do. Um, yeah. And it seems like it, it's paid off and I, we get like a lot of compliments on that, like mm-hmm.

Like, yeah. Keep, keep posting like your online presence is like great. I think it's super important too. And like, just to be transparent too. Yeah. You don't always have to like, give everything away, but, uh, it's nice to connect with people and like, I feel like that's really important, especially connecting with, with people like from all around the world, like.

Um, we always look at our like little analytic thing, like demographic of like people age. Yeah. Um, I'm like, that's really cool, like to see that there's like little trickles of like

Brian Prime: Yeah.

Rosselinni: You know, all over Chile or you know, Berlin. Yeah. You love South

Brian Prime: America. South America. Um, yeah, I'm, yeah. I'm always excited to see that stuff.

Oh my God, my [00:05:00] podcast got listened to in Germany for whatever reason I did it. Yeah,

Rosselinni: it feels good. So it's like, okay, it's re it's reaching people and um, I just feel like that's like super important.

Brian Prime: Yeah. , So, uh, since you're handling most of that, , you were incredible on stage by the way. Just, , blistering electronics, , making sure everything ran smoothly.

Um. Tell me a little bit about your process for like, making music for this thing.

Anton: Well, I mean, we both just kind of, um, just kind of start just kind of jamming out ideas. I mean, really, it's like we rarely kind of have an i an idea going in. We kinda just, yeah.

Rosselinni: I don't think it's ever, we kind of just,

Anton: sometimes we might have a deal of a title.

That's what, or like a word or something or word and like, but you,

Rosselinni: like, you hear it like, yeah. He starts off with like something, or like he'll just like, uh, turn everything on. And then I'll just like sit there, he'll like do whatever, and then I'll like, like sit stand next and whatever, and like just like fuck around and like press shit.

That sounds cool. Like, yeah, let's go with that. Yeah. And then like once you hear it, it's [00:06:00] almost like the music, like starts speaking to you and then I look at him and I'm like, mm-hmm. I love It was so cheesy. Yeah. Like, I love him, right? And I'm like, oh my God. Like, just like the music and like being there with him and like sharing that experience and like, um, and that relationship, like it's beyond just like being married.

It's like you're getting to do something that's your passion. Like you have love and you both have like that love and passion for it, and you're doing it together and like, damn, like this is my person. Like this is my guy. It comes so fluid and natural. Um, yeah, and that's kind of where it stems from. Like the really, essentially it's like the music just speaks to you and, um, like all I have to do is like, look at it.

Anton: Yeah. You kinda like, is so beautiful that we tend to kind, you know, now, you know, we tend to kind of just kind of work quickly, like what's kind, we get an idea, we kind of just wanna run with it and get it down, you know. You know, being spend

Rosselinni: too much time.

Anton: Yeah. Being electronic music, you know, doing electronic music.

Lot of time you get into like the thing where you're stuck on a four bar loop, you're stuck on a four bar loop for like a month, you know, have

Rosselinni: all these like [00:07:00] fucking songs and you're just

Anton: got into our heads like, let's just get an idea down and just write it all out, do it. And we kind of just like, don't even, we try and finish a track in like a week, you know, that's like, let's just get it get done then, because it kind of just starts working itself out once you kind of just start.

Mm-hmm. Look at do it, it just starts kind of like coming naturally and, and you're okay. That doesn't

Rosselinni: like, and, and I love like, you know, the, the feedback and stuff, you know, like, uh, you know, like, oh, like what do you think about this? Or like, oh, that doesn't, like, maybe like, try doing this, like this fits better.

Like, oh, what do you have your opinion is on your take on there? Like, you know, something that I'd never thought about or the, the word or whatever. Yeah. Um. And then I'm like, yeah, damn babe. Like, fuck, like you, you created this. What the fuck? Like, this is amazing. Like you pieced it together like it's a puzzle and like you Yeah.

Um, and it just kind of connects and it just comes together. And, um, but yeah, I think the, I think the main part is like too. You know, not like stressing about it and like actually having fun with it. Sure. I think that's like the main thing is like, [00:08:00] just fucking have fun. Like if you're doing it for like, the money and like, you know, the fame or whatever, like you're doing it for the wrong reason.

Yeah. Like, you have to have fun. Like overall, even if you're starting out or like you don't really know, uh, much about music or haven't, you know, you're just starting out. Like that's just like the main important thing to remember is like just that. Fucking fun.

Brian Prime: Yeah.

Rosselinni: If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong.

Yeah. Um, so yeah.

Brian Prime: Gotcha. , That's a beautiful reason, , for making music. , Agree. Yeah. And it gets people moving. So, um. With that in mind, you guys have put out, , a little bit of work and, , what are the plans for the next, uh, record that you intend to do? What sort of themes do you think you'll explore on it?

Maybe

Anton: that's the thing we never really kind of know. Like I said, we don't really, we kind of just go in with the blank. Kinda slate and just, uh, we, I said we rarely kind of have an idea going in. We can just sit down and I guess said, sometimes just [00:09:00] a word will come to us like, oh, my first is distract. We just did desire.

Yeah. It's like, it's like this desire, desire. This is right around that. Just keep your desire. Yeah. It's like,

Rosselinni: let's go with that. I don't know where like the run of the words like came in like desire. Sure. And then we

Anton: just kind, yeah. It was kind of right from, like I said, we just kind of jam. It's almost like you just kind of jam it out, like just like get some basic.

And the beats and baselines down and just like,

Rosselinni: just write notes. Like just write. We just pull off the

Anton: mic and start and we'll just kind of record stuff, stuff as we go and kind of edit stuff really raw. And then we'll go back and once we kind have no idea now this is what we want, then we'll kind of go back and rerecord it like,

Rosselinni: right.

Yeah. You know, and then we kind.

Anton: It's so, it's kinda like turned into our process. I mean, I think when we first started out, it was more like, I would try and like come up with a bunch, you know, whole songs with the music and then write lyrics to it. And we only did that like Flush or twice and then, but I think that was like a thing, like the beginning.

Very beginning. Yeah. And then it became a thing. Let's just kind of, we just do it all together, sit down. It, it

Rosselinni: became more comfortable, I think. [00:10:00] Like instead of stress, like, oh my God, like he's gonna hear me sing. Like, and that's what I've always wanted, like, uh. You know, to like, make music with like my best friend and, and my lover.

And so like, I don't know, but there was like that whole part, I'm like, oh God, I have to like, you know, my walls have to come down, you know? Yeah. It's like

Anton: listening, like now, like listening to like our first

Rosselinni: he gets, has to hear me, like sing it. Like, it's like listening to like our

Anton: first EP for, for us, for me is just kind of strange because it was like such, it was such a different

Rosselinni: Yeah.

Anton: Kind of process than it was our first time kind of working together. It was more like, like you said, like. Write music and then, then, then it's like her first time and it's like, now it's like

Rosselinni: comfortable. I'm like, oh my God. Like I, I don't wanna,

Anton: by the time we got around to like our next round of music, then it was more like, now we're in a groove, like

Rosselinni: the way working.

So even if it sounds stupid or like, does it come out? It's. It's off or like, um, whatever. Yeah. Um, you know, fuck it. Like I make mistakes. We all make mistakes. Sure. But, um,

Anton: [00:11:00] yeah, that's certain thing. Yeah. We don't, like I said, we don't spend too much time trying to make everything sound like fucking perfect.

We can just like the, there is a certain kind of raw kind of energy to what we're doing. Just kind of get, get it down, even if it's not perfect or whatever. It's just the energy is there to take. Yeah. That's kind of what we like to go with, you know? It's like just, just get it down. Get it done. Get it out, you know?

Yeah. You don't wanna sit here and fuck around like production for, for longer

Rosselinni: time on it. And you're like,

Anton: wait,

Rosselinni: but, and I've done that before where I'm like, shit, should I have said?

Anton: That's not to say we don't, that well produce. I mean, we do spend a lot of time on the kind of production process, but I'm such a perfectionist at the same time, we want to get it done.

We don't wanna like just spend endless hours. Because you

Rosselinni: could, yeah. You could sit there and like take it. Yeah. Or I could have done that. I could have added like, oh, harmonize that. Do you like added that, that synth or like, oh, whatever. Yeah. And then it's like just. Don't overthink it. Yeah. Like it sounds good.

Like yes we do. You guys do. And there support too. Like our, you know, our friends will like, let move on to the

Anton: next thing. Let's get a, we'll send it like the raw

Rosselinni: shit to our friends. [00:12:00] Like, it sounds great. Like it's amazing life. Good. Yeah.

Brian Prime: We're in the

Rosselinni: right direction. Yeah. Uh, they like it. Uh, good, good, good feedback.

Um.

Brian Prime: You guys are pretty unfiltered so that rawness comes out. Well, I don't want to keep you too long. Your performance tonight was amazing. , I always ask the same last question for my show. Uh, what is something that you are enjoying right now? And your answer can be anything. Uh, book, tv. Show. Movie your dog.

Good. Let's see. I love your shirt, by the way. I'm really enjoying

Rosselinni: sex right now.

Sex has been good lately. I'm just kidding. It always is.

Anton: That is always good.

Rosselinni: No, I,

Anton: um, um, I dunno. We kinda like, um, you know, we like, you know, when we're kind of in these periods of where we're kind like. Go out and play live. We kept preparing for all that. You know, we spent a lot of time just kind of at [00:13:00] home listening to stuff.

So we like to, you know, always tune in like Twitch. We turn the Twitch a lot.

Rosselinni: Twitch. We love Twitch, that's thing. Seeing who's

Anton: DJing, enjoying and like, you know, kind of the DJs and chatting with people on there. Listen to stuff they're playing and, um, and there's like certain just like,

Rosselinni: uh, you know, uh, the PJ sets.

The hacker was there, like technical DJs

Anton: we love Left the hacker, Oliver Mann and, and uh, so we like to just kind of pull up U YouTube sets and kind of just, you know, hang out on Berlin.

Rosselinni: That's always like really good. Um, that's kind of love that. Yeah. And

Anton: that's kind of what I think, you know, inspires what we're doing, doing as well.

And we don't always

Rosselinni: like, just listen to like. Like industry all the time, like, like our music musical taste or like influences are like so broad and, and that's like the main thing too. Yeah. It's like, and people are like, I only listen to like this one genre. And I'm like, how? I know. It's like there's so many good things like just come from this stem, from that and [00:14:00] like how can you just like one.

Brian Prime: Yeah, there's so many flavors. Like I've been so into funk and I like hard style and just there's much good music in we're

Anton: in like. You know, like, uh, German TA stuff, stuff like that. We also like some, like some pop stuff. We like Yeah. We love Kim Petras. Yeah. Kim Petra was good. Kim Pet's really good actually.

The Harry Styles hairstyles hair. Really?

Rosselinni: I,

Anton: we love, we love Led Zeppelin and the cars and stuff. Like the cars. Oh gosh. So I got it.

Rosselinni: Yeah. RA is like, we do have, we're, we're, if anyone wants to like, definitely know, donate, um, get the. The,

Anton: the Getty Lee.

So yeah, music Locker. Um,

Rosselinni: that, and then on our off time, whenever we're like chilling in bed, like we like to watch TV shows. We love Dateline

Brian Prime: in 20. True Crime. True crime shit. I dunno like,

Rosselinni: ooh, it's so like in, it's [00:15:00] always been a fucking

Brian Prime: thing. True crime has always been a thing. Oh, this should been, I would

Rosselinni: never do that.

This should. Stupid they got caught. Right.

Anton: Never talk to the cops. Always get a lawyer. Always lawyer.

Rosselinni: Every, always a lawyer.

Anton: Yeah. That's one piece

Rosselinni: of advice that's probably shoulda been, that's a question in the interview. If there's one piece of advice that you'd offer, it's lawyer, whatever, it's You didn't do it.

Don't say anything. Yeah. Um.

Brian Prime: This probably should have been a True Crime podcast, but it's okay. , Well, , I always answer the question, , myself as well. Uh, the things that have been, uh, shit, what I been enjoying recently. . My life has been just good in general. Like I started a new job and I was started out doing customer service stuff and I just got moved into their marketing department.

So Wow. I'm writing copy and doing, you know, design and stuff and, , awesome. I love, I'm pretty happy.

Rosselinni: Like, and if they let you, like do it on your own, they're not. Micromanaging.

Brian Prime: My boss is cool about it. And [00:16:00] so he's like, that's what I've always wanted to do. Like copy. Yeah. Like I have a friend that does that.

Yeah. I, I went to school for creative writing, so I'm like super thrilled to be like, oh my God, I'm using my degree. I'm in depth for Yeah.

Rosselinni: And you're very well spoken. Oh, thank you. And like. I can only imagine that like that reflects like when you're doing coffee and smoke.

Brian Prime: Yeah.

Rosselinni: That's cool.

Brian Prime: Thank you. I appreciate it.

Rosselinni: Congrats. Thank

Brian Prime: you. Thank you. It's wonderful. Yeah. Everything has been good. Personal life is amazing and awesome. It's good things are wonderful. It's always the best. It's

Rosselinni: always the best.

Brian Prime: It is. Thank you both so much. Thank you. Appreciate your time. I really

Rosselinni: appreciate it. Um, looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Brian Prime: Tomorrow again,

Rosselinni: again in the future.

Brian Prime: Thank you so much. Yeah, of course. Thank you.
